Organising Chairman
MPCS ASM 2022

Greetings to all,

Welcome to the Malaysian Paediatric Cardiac Society (MPCS) Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) 2022. I have been given the honour to chair this edition of our prestigious paediatric cardiology yearly meeting. As COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc to many event organisers, the committee has decided to take the difficult decision of hosting this meeting virtually again this year. The yearnings of a physical meeting will have to wait for another year.

However, to mitigate the agony of missing out on the physical meeting, we have endeavoured to bring you a panel of more than 10 international speakers to spice up our scientific meeting. The theme of our symposium this year is ‘A Journey from Foetus to Adulthood’. We aim to bring up cardiology challenges right from the womb to delivery, then raising the bar to paediatric cardiology, exploring catheter interventions as well as cardiothoracic surgery to correct their underlying lesions; and finally, when they are adults, dealing with this lifelong disease. Basic topics aiming to enrich the knowledge of general paediatricians as well as advanced topics to pique the interest of senior paediatric cardiologist will be included. Expect discussions to be given more airtime and focus, with the presence of our international faculty.

As a tradition, pre-congress workshops are an integral part of training the next generation of paediatric cardiologist. Core skills such as Echocardiography and knowledge on Electrocardiogram are the theme of our two focussed workshop. This year, we will bring back limited seats hands-on Echo practical while also allowing attendance of a wider audience via a virtual platform. Advance therapies like electrophysiology study/ablation and implantable devices will be tackled in the rhythm workshop.

This year’s scientific meeting will continue to provide a platform for budding researchers to present their valuable research findings with the paediatric cardiology community around the world. We would urge you all to share your conclusions via the moderated posters session and interesting case presentations. Prizes will be given to the best poster and case presentation. We will also not miss out on crowd favourite events such as Meet-the-expert and debate. Jeopardy and quizzes are slipped in between programmes to break the monotony and aims to reward the enthusiastic symposium participant. Industry sponsored talks/lunches seek to update the delegates on the latest treatment modalities available to the paediatric cardiologist.

Have a look into the programme of this year’s annual scientific meeting and I am sure you will be enticed. I am looking forward to seeing all of you this coming September 2022.
